Shop Applied Coatings

Tighe Group has two factories, both of which offer shot blasting and application of multi-coat paint systems. The factories have large laydown and storage areas to accommodate any major project, along with easy access to the motorway network. Both facilities have benefited from significant investment in recent years.

Foxhills, Scunthorpe

This factory is one of the largest blasting and coating facilities in the UK, and has the following features:

  • Operational space: over 135,000 sq ft
  • Number of bays: four
  • External storage space: 22,000 sq ft
  • Cranes: Bay 1 – one 3 tonne gantry crane; Bay 2 – one 7.5 tonne crane; Bay 3 – two 25 tonne cranes; Bay 4 – two 10 tonne cranes
  • Mobile plant and vehicles: 44 tonne articulated lorry, trailers, forklifts, side loaders, MEWPs
  • Blast booths: two booths – one 21 m x 8 m x 6 m, and the other 30 m x 8 m x 8 m
  • Heating: 4 MW biomass boiler system capable of maintaining temperatures to ensure compliance with most specifications during inclement weather
  • Electricity: 0.80 MW solar panels

Kirk Sandall, Doncaster

Our second facility is located in Doncaster; the site is 5.5 acres and consists of the main workshop, a separate metal spray booth, paint stores, offices, fitting shops and an extensive storage yard. The factory has the following features:

  • Cranes: three goliath cranes, with a singular lifting capacity of 25 tonnes and a combined lifting capacity of 55 tonnes – they service the incoming stockyard, the factory areas and outgoing stockyard
  • Main workshop: 36,200 sq ft
  • Blast booths: main workshop booth – 26m x 5m x 5m; metal spray booth – 22m x 9m x 6m
  • Heating: four heater houses with 150 KW oil fired heaters


Our experienced and qualified teams provide the following services:

  • Shot/grit blasting
  • Blasting of stainless steel/aluminium (non-metallic abrasive)
  • Thermal metal spraying
  • Application of specialist/high performance coatings
  • Application of intumescent coatings
  • Application of non-slip floor/deck coatings

Protective coatings

The Tighe Group has extensive experience in the application of protective coatings. The following methods are used at our factories:

  • Airless spray
  • Thermal application of aluminium/zinc
  • Conventional spray
  • 2 component plural feed
  • Brush/roller
  • Trowel


Our management personnel and operational teams are fully trained in line with industry standards. Paint Inspectors hold NACE and ICorr Levels 1 to 3, and operatives are trained to ICATS Applicator, Blaster and Sprayer standards (a requirement for Network Rail and Highways England).
