The first six months of 2019 have simply flown by!

Across the Tighe businesses we have had a successful period between January and July and maintain a healthy order book as we move into the second half of the year.

We continue to receive many enquiries from both existing customers and new clients, which bodes well for the remainder of 2019 and beyond.

Following on from our January newsletter, the UK’s first ever Industrial Coatings Applicator Apprenticeship programme, in partnership with North Lindsey College and Correx (ICATS) is now six months old and in full swing.

The initial phase of the apprenticeship programme focused on inducting our new recruits and introducing them to Health and Safety in the working environment. e.g. manual handling, slips trips and falls, medicals, RAMS etc.

Following the introductory phase, the apprentices have completed further modules including steel defects, surface preparation and the chemistry of paint. In conjunction with the classroom-based learning, the apprentices have gained valuable practical on-site work experience under the guidance and supervision of our Contracts Managers and Supervisors.

The positive feedback received within the first six months of this first ever apprenticeship programme, has given us the re-assurance to look ahead to our next intake of apprentices in October 2019. The new scheme will run in conjunction with the existing scheme.

In the first half of 2019, we have successfully completed several projects including:

New clients/projects gained during the early part of 2019 include:

  • SSE Framework – Projects on Power Stations, Pipelines (internal and external) and bridge structures.
  • Island Roads – Contract to refurbish Yarmouth Bridge on the Isle of Wight.
  • Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council – Grove Place Subway, Contract to refurbish the parapets, concrete wall repairs and all subsequent painting work.
  • Kier Services – Bardney Bridge, Contract to scaffold, encapsulate, clean, blast and paint all structural steel work.
  • OPA Framework – Tank lining and painting and pipe rack painting

Finally, Jack Tighe Decorating Ltd have re-located to a new, larger premises in central Darlington. The purpose of the move is to increase our profile within the local region and to secure an increased workload.

Supporting Local Events

We have continued to support community projects during the early part of 2019.

Sunday 26th May saw the World Quadrathlon Championship take place within the Keyo Brigg Bomber at Ancholme Leisure Centre in Brigg, North Lincolnshire.

The event was organised by the only Quadrathlon club in the UK and Lincsquad based in Brigg.

Jack Tighe Ltd were pleased to offer support and sponsorship for this event which had 79 entries and 13 teams participating in testing weather conditions to say the least!

Jack Tighe Ltd look forward to supporting the next Lincsquad event on September 29th, the Keyo Brigg Sprint Triathlon.

The annual Grimsby Town Football Club Golf Day, in support of the Youth Development Association (YDA), took place on Friday 12th July raising £4,500.00.

The event at The Grimsby Golf Club raises funds for the YDA, which supports the development of the next generation of GTFC players from the ages 7 to 18 years old.

This year is Jack Tighe’s 5th year of continued support.

At the end of June, we sponsored a local football team (the Tighe logo was printed on the kit free of charge by Rob Hand at Rubber Safety Hygiene Ltd) in a local 6 a side competition for charity and we also bought the full football kit for the event. The charity we supported was DS Active which helps with sporting activities for people with down’s syndrome.

Sam Panter, our Health and Safety Director played for the team and we were knocked out on penalties in the semi- final by the eventual winners of the tournament.
