Across the Tighe Group we have leapt into 2020 full of optimism and positivity following a successful 2019.

Apprenticeship News

Following on from our August newsletter, our first intake of Apprentices have been progressing well and have been working hard towards their end point assessment.

In addition to their experience gained on site, the Apprentices continued with their development by attending a spray course hosted by HMG paints in Manchester. The Apprentices also visited Spray Paint UK Ltd where they were introduced to the range of equipment that they are likely to use working for Jack Tighe Ltd.

Towards the end of January 2020, the apprentices embarked on a new training experience for all concerned, Virtual Reality Spraying and Blasting.

The training was provided by International Paints at our training facility in Scunthorpe and this was the first time this equipment had been used in England.

The Apprentices learnt about the benefits of using the VR equipment including:

  • Health and Safety (no potential for injuries during training operations)
  • Cost savings as no blast media or paint are being used.
  • Use of Electronic screen/projector – (no need to travel to or use a site location).

Following the success of this apprenticeship to date we have commenced a second intake of 9 Apprentices on the 14 October 2019. The new scheme is running in conjunction with the initial program.

Environmental News

In association with Hodge Clemco Ltd, we have reviewed our spent abrasive materials sent for disposal from both contract sites and company owned processing facilities.

The aim was to form a new recycling route to reduce our Environmental Footprint and the overall volume of material sent to landfill.

Following the review, we implemented the new system for recycling spent abrasives in August 2019.

The new system can be used for all grit including lead contaminated loads.

Not only does the new system provide positives environmentally as the spent abrasives are now recycled rather than going to landfill, but the costs associated with collecting the used abrasive materials have fallen.

Since the new programme inception in August 2019, 213.47 tonnes of spent abrasives have been recycled and not sent to landfill.

As a Company we continually encourage all new Environmental initiatives and support waste reduction and pollution preventions throughout our operations.

Supporting Local Events/Charity

Jack Tighe Ltd Christmas Jumper Day

Just before the Christmas break, Jack Tighe Limited had a Christmas Jumper Day.

We raised £300 for the ‘Save The Children Fund’ helping those less fortunate in our world, not just at Christmas but throughout the year too.

Viking FM – Mission Christmas 2019

Towards the end of 2019 we supported local radio station, Viking FM in their appeal to help under privileged children across the region to ensure they have a happier Christmas than they would otherwise.

The appeal asked members of the public to donate Christmas gifts which were delivered to children around the region in time for Christmas. We also collected £375 for the appeal in cash donations.

The photo attached was taken at the drop off point in Kirton Lindsey with the Christmas gifts collected. A massive thanks to everyone who helped with the appeal.

The Poppy Wave – Portsmouth

Back in October 2019, at Portsmouth Naval Base, we were happy to help complete the more sentimental task of painting 300+ poppies.

The poppies were unveiled and presented to the Captain of the base on Remembrance Day.
